April 25, 2025 - The Smithson Valley High School winter guard team won the state championship after qualifying for the Texas Color Guard Circuit State Championship Finals on March 30.
In fact, four Comal ISD winter guard varsity teams and one junior varsity team advanced to the finals, showcasing their talent with outstanding performances including SVHS, Canyon, Davenport and Pieper high schools.
The PHS winter guard made district history when both its varsity and junior varsity (JV) teams advanced to the finals. The JV or Gold Team was moved to the highest competitive classification for JV units early in the season which allowed the team to be eligible for the state contest.
The Canyon Lake High School winter guard also advanced to a state championship in the Texas Educational Colorguard Association (TECA), rounding out every program in the district with a state qualifying team.
The SVHS color guard officers include Bridget George, commander; Daylin Blake, captain; Ashley Dudzikowski, lieutenant; and Mary Grace McCash, lieutenant. Directors include Robert Andrade, assistant band director and color guard director/choreographer; Samantha Grudzinski, assistant color guard director/choreographer; and Michael Childress, director of bands.
Student leadership for the CHS varsity winter guard includes Jazmine Delgado, Sheyla Hechevarria and Lorelei Vaden. Directors include Matt Sotelo, color guard director; Macy Harmison, assistant band director; and Steve Vaden, director of bands.
Student leaders of the CLHS winter guard are Olivia Crisp and Saschabella Juarez. Ed Gonzales is director of bands and winter guard director/choreographer.
Student leaders for the DHS winter guard are captains, Reba Blount and Morgan Lavash. Directors are Alexis Dillon, winter guard director; Michael Lehmann, assistant band director; Tyler McClendon, assistant band director; and Jeffrey Keyes, band director.
The PHS varsity leaders are Daphne Crisantes and Alexis Mihail, and the JV leaders are Khalese Barr, Adele Myers and Madalynn Rodriguez. Directors are John Arroyo, color guard director, and Evan Berry, director of bands.
